Firefly Lane- Bookish Thoughts #14

What Firefly Lane is about:
Spanning more than three decades and playing out across the ever-changing face of the Pacific Northwest, Firefly Lane is the poignant, powerful story of two women and the friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives.

Why I wanted to read it: My sister-in-law loved this book and she said I would too, so she mailed it to me!

Source: My lovely and generous SIL- Heather

  • I am a sucker for books that are about women and their friendships. This one was so fantastic! I loved every single page...I mean it...every single page.
  • I adored the way the author broke up the book into decades! Even though I was pretty young in the 70s' I do remember some of the things that Tully and Katie talked about. Most especially the huge crush on David Cassidy!!! And who could forget all of the iconic hair-dos of Farrah Fawcett, Dorothy Hamill, and of course, Jennifer Aniston.
  • I always wanted a real friendship like the one that Tully and Katie experienced. Unfortunately, I can't say that I hada friend like that from high school. But, as I've gotten older I have made friendships that I believe will sustain me into my sunset years!!
  • I thought the ending was wonderful. Granted it was sad, but it was just done so well. I think it's a rare friendship were two people know each other so well, warts and all!
  • The author included a playlist! If you have been reading my blog for very long, you know that I love to read the Behind The Novel/Author's words first. Well, I could kick myself for not doing it this time because I would have enjoyed listening to the music while reading this book!! So make sure you do that!!
I loved this book! I am proud to admit that I enjoy "Chick Lit" and am now eager to read more of Kristin's books. Lucky for me, Julie (scrappy genius and friend) sent me True Colors, which I will be reading in the upcoming months!! Yay for great friends and Yippee for books that really touch my heart!

  4. Staci, I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed this one so much. I have actually stayed away due to the length of her novels. I tend to lose interest.

I JUST requested a copy from my library.

  8. I haven't read Hannah's work yet, but my sister loves it and says each book should be sold with a box of tissues.

  14. The playlist thing is sort of new trend but very, very cool. 1Q84 had one and it really added to the experience.

I love the cover of this one!

  15. Oh gosh, this book made me cry. But I loved that each part started with song lyrics. That made my music-nerd heart happy. Glad you liked this one! I have a couple others of hers on my shelf that I need to get to.

  17. Some books you just 'know' you should get..... I think this is one of them!

I like the 'behind the novel/author's words' stuff too. You feel more connected.

Here's to clear blue skies and 'clear air'... hehe...

  18. I love Kristin Hannah's books and really connected to Firefly Lane.

An interesting tidbit: for a month, when my book Miles to Go came out, it was paired on Amazon with Firefly Lane. My book also spanned three decades and featured the friendships of women. (From the Seventies to the Millennium).

  19. I was really worried that this one sounded like it might just slide into "sappy." Sounds like it really avoids that trap. May just have to give Hannah a try!

  23. Kristin Hannah is my favourite adult fiction author, I don't consider chick lit actually. Loved this one and Night Road. True Colours is my next for her also.

    Enjoy them

  29. I love the excitement you have about this book! I love books about women's friendships and this book is on my bookshelf waiting to be read! I love the playlist idea so I am glad that you mentioned that and will look it up. This just may be my next read. I am a fan of Ms. Hannah's work, I highly recommend Winter Garden!

  30. I haven't read a Hannah book yet! However, I plan to listen to Home Front soon. I'll be doing good if I like it half as much as you liked this one. Tee Hee. (Joy: not a big chick-lit fan)
